3D areas textured

These are the 3D areas I made and then added textures on to them to make them complete. Some of the textures I created myself using Photoshop. This first one is the Marble Zone area I used Marble textures for the the arch collums and the big block. The purple blocks are the sprites from the game but with a added effect to make them more 3D and stand out more the spike, spring and the checkpoint I didn't add anyhing on them because I though they were fine as they were. The lava floor texture  I made in the program using a gradient and some efects and lastly then added my some logo on to the signpost to complete it.

3D area lava

For the first area I was making the Marble Zone I tryed to make a lava flow that could run through the area so I could see what it would look like and to add to the effect of it. I made it but I decided not to keep it because it was to fast and not looping, it would have taken a long time to get it looking how I would want and the whole lava was taking up to much space.

here is the a video of the lava moving

3D areas

For LZ103 my intention was to recreate a 2D level from the Sonic the Hedgehog series into a small 3D area, so I drew up some designs for a 3D area and used 3DS Max to try and model them. I was going to make only one area intially but I perhaps might make more then one for a bit of variety.

The first area is based off the Marble Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog 1 I choose this because I didn't want to recreate the first level and I thought it was interesting with the contrasting colours and quite the opposite in theme to the first level. I have modelled in a marble arch  and pillars and the structures for standing on there is also spikes of which there is a abundance of in this level and a checkpoint. The floor would be covered in lava.

Exhibition Space

I made a exhibition space in 3DS Max to link in with my transformation project in the 3D space I displayed some renders of 3D models that I have already made and the photos I used in my transformation video. Some of the photo's I took are layed out around the space on the walls so if people were walking around they would feel transformation was taking place in the images.
Here is a render of the exhibition space when I was working on it

And here is a picture of the finished exhibition space on this image you can just see a few images dotted around.

Lighting (dust)

I created two different lighting effects in 3DS Max  I first created a box for the light to shine on and went and placed down a omni spotlight. Then by going on the edit menu and then clicking on atmosphere then new the enviroment and effects screen comes up allowing me to change lighting effects.

Textures

Textures I used and where I found them

Table and skirting board

In 3-D max I made a table and a skirting board for the table I used The same process as I did when making the vase for the legs, apart from I didn't drag the centre out to make equal halves I just used the laive tool. I then duplicated the leg three times so that I had 4 table legs and then I re-sized them so there were all the same size. Afterwards I put a top on the table and cut out the middle where I filled it with another box and turned it into glass.

Unity (warehouse)

I first started by opening the program and this I adjusted the sceen layout and turned the grid on.

I then started up a new file and restarted the program then imported all the meshes and textures I needed by copying and pasting them into the right place so I could use them. After it had finished I started to place the objects on to the grid using 0,0,0 for the cordinates. Pre-hand they I had re-size all the objects to 1 instead of 0.1, once all the objects where in place I could switch to the game screen and play on what was there. But since there was no light I couldn't see where I was goingwhilst playing, so I added a global light temporaly so I could see where I was going. I took screenshots of the gameplay screen.

Research (Stash media)

On Stashmedia.tv website there is whole bunch of video media such as advertisements, music videos and short films created by companys for T.V and the internet. I'll list a few that I thought were interesting

Shapeshifter Link
Short film: 2:12

I liked this one because of the way the film starts off showing a normal car driving along a road at night time, Then the car starts to break away and transform in to a animal after animal. The animals that the car transform into match the terrarin they are in, such as deers running through a forrest and and the fish in the sea. The music isn't overpowering either and suits the film and the end the last animal which is a eagle flys through a tunnel and when it comes back out the other side it's a car again.

Making a vase and tube

Firstly I made a cylinder in 3D Max I then went to the menu shapes > lines and maximized the viewport toggle so I could see the grid full screen. I went about drawing half a vase with a straight line down the middle, ater I went to modify > lathe > axis and by sliding the middle around I was able to create a basic vase.

Artist Research

The reason for me choosing Harald Belker is because I like the way he creates vechiles and the way they look smooth and futuristic. He how many of them look like concepts, he was worked on things for movies, games and even toys with the likes of hotwheels. Not only does he draw vechiles he does weapons and props aswell, also characters. His work could inspire my work with all his designs and the way he creates things that look futuristic.

3-D house continued

After I learned how to make glass in 3-D Max I put glass windows into the house I made previously. First I grouped all the pieces of the window together so I could move them all at once and then I re-sized it to fit the window into the wall. And then duplicating the window so for the other walls. The spotlight lighting was still there and the floor didn't have any have texture.

Glass in 3-D Max

Firstly I created a simple wall shape and then went onto the material editor settings and changed the colour to blue, and changing the opacity from 100 down to 40 to make it more transparent like glass. To make sure it was transparent I put the a sphere shape behind the wall to see if I could see it throught the wall. I could so it worked, then I rendered the image.

Moulding objects in 3-D Max

Started off by making a box in 3-D Max and making a grid in the box from which the box culd bet altered and re-aranged.

Creating a 3-D house

I started off by creating a small house structure in the program called 3-D Max, I made 2 walls first one length wall and one witdh wall. Then I added the windows to do that I made a box go 2 boxes go through the longer wall, then selected the wall where I wanted the windows and selected the compound objects menu. Next by clicking on pick Operand B then just clicking on the boxes going through the wall, which deleted them making holes in the wall.

Then I went about copying the 2 walls by going to the "select and move" button and then selecting one wall at a time holding the Shift key and then draging the wall out to make a duplicate of it. After I had all 4 walls Imade a floor by making a flat surface and then re-sizeing it to fit the house. Here is a screenprint of the house
